Thyroid

The thyroid gland is housed in our throat, lying over the trachea, or windpipe. It is in the simplest terms, our ‘furnace’. The guide to our metabolism and cellular energy production. Most commonly, people suffer from an underactive or hypothyroid, though it can also be overactive or hyperthyroid.

In conventional medicine there can be a very narrow view of what it means for the thyroid to be ‘working’. For us, though, there is a spectrum of function – looking at the overarching markers for function, like the TSH, but also how it’s working – looking at T3 and T4, for example, the actual hormones it produces. In exploring the functional capacities of the thyroid gland we can help patients feel great – not based on numbers, but symptoms and the lack thereof!
