What is your Why?

Your Wants

You want to lose weight. You want to start exercising on a consistent basis. You want to make other lifestyle changes such as establishing a sleep routine or engaging in daily self-care. You want to do these things but you just can’t seem to “do it”. You feel motivated for a day or two or even for a week or a month, but with time you notice your motivation waning, and just like that it is gone and so are your good intentions. We have all been there. We are all humans. It’s okay.

So what can take you over this bump in the road that keeps coming up?

A “why.” And even more powerful, a “why that makes you cry.” When you think about losing weight, ask yourself “why” you want to lose weight. The answer will be different for everyone. Dig down deep and really ask yourself why.

  • Do any bring tears to your eyes as you go through the possible answers?

  • Do any bring up emotions that take your breath away?

If so, you have found your answer. Your “why” stirs up something in you that is stronger and more powerful than motivation. Stronger and more powerful than willpower. Stronger and more powerful than anything else. Maybe your why is, “I want to lose weight because I am tired of feeling so badly about myself.” Or maybe your why means, “I want to lose weight because I do not want food to control my life anymore. Possibly, I want to lose weight because I want to be an inspiration to others.” Your why could be something as simple as, “I want to lose weight so I can buy cute clothes.”

It does not matter what your why is. What is important is that your why stirs up strong emotions and literally makes you cry. Spend some time today contemplating what you want and why. It will surely be time well spent.
